Pinterest’s Top Trending Halloween Costumes Are So Easy to Copy

Whenever you need a burst of creative energy, you probably head to Pinterest. The app is a beacon of inspiration for the fashion and beauty lovers planning their weddings, outfits, and—come October—their Halloween costumes. Speaking of, the platform released its 2024 Halloween Trend Report, and if you’re reading this, you can likely guess the top searched costumes this year. Think: Charli XCX in her Brat era, blue and white Dallas Cowboys cheerleading costumes, Sabrina Carpenter’s pin-up aesthetic—the list goes on. Ahead, we’ve rounded up the trendiest costumes of the year according to Pinterest, plus how to get the look.

Kesha

If you have Kesha’s “Joyride” stuck in your head as your read this, why not opt to be the glittery pop star for Halloween? Considered an “It girl” costume by Pinterest (with a 500% increase in search value) her Coachella look for this year would be especially fun (and easy) to reference. She styled an “I Am Mother” tank top with denim shorts and white cowboy boots. Complete the look by adding mini braids into the front pieces of your hair and swiping on a glitter eyeshadow.

Chani from ‘Dune’

Movie buffs, Zendaya stans, and fashion people know how monumental her Dune 2 press tour was earlier this year. The app predicts that “main character” costumes will be big this year, not to mention they work great for group costumes. Channel Z’s character Chani with a sand-toned top, cargo pants, and a pair of brown boots as your base. Add on accessories like a scarf and blue contacts and complete the look by styling your hair into a loose braid.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders

This year, sports have been bigger and better than ever. Taylor Swift brought a new interest to football, the Paris Olympics captivated the world this summer, everyone fell in love with F1, and America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders took over Netflix. Needless to say sports-influenced costumes will be everywhere this spooky season, and the DCC Cheerleaders in particular are seeing a 550% spike in searches. Dolls Kill has a readymade set that is similar to their gameday looks, but the outfit can be DIY’d with a blue top and a white mini skirt or shorts.

Olivia Rodrigo

Of course, the princess of moody breakup hits would make the list. Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS tour aesthetic makes for such a fun costume. Her signature tour look, a white tank top, glittery shorts, and combat boots is so easy to copy at home with items you can re-wear too. Her online merch features tanks with witty references to her songs, and Guizio’s Pailette Shorts are the perfect party-ready short you’ll wear again and again.

Elphaba from ‘Wicked’

Halloween is the perfect time to lean into your main character energy, especially the green and pink duo from Wicked. Grab a black dress from your closet (or let this be your sign to purchase a staple LBD) and pick up a basic black witch hat. If you’re not committed to painting your full body green, opt for a bright eyeshadow look that’s easily achievable with about-face’s Matte Fluid Eye Paint. Simply swipe the color onto your eyelid and top with gemstones and a winged eyeliner.

Carrie Bradshaw

No one does main character energy better than Carrie Bradshaw. Thankfully, among dozens of episodes from Sex and the City, there’s a ton of iconic looks to pull from. We’d argue her eclectic looks, like this one featuring capris and heels, are the most fun to re-create. Start with a pair of knee-length trousers and a flowy white tank top and add on Carrie-y accessories like a hair scarf, a unique handbag, and a pair of Manolo Blahniks.

Glinda from ‘Wicked’

If you want to be popular this Halloween, Glinda is your best bet. Not to mention, she and Elphaba would make for a great duo costume. Grab your best friend and start with R.e.m Beauty’s Wicked collaboration, which includes makeup for both characters. For Glinda, think pink—an easygoing option would be a pretty pink dress with matching heels. Complete the look with a sparkling tiara and wand for all the good witch energy.

Vampire Glam

Halloween makeup gets a bad reputation for being heavy (or associated with layers of face paint), but let Hailey Bieber’s past vampire look prove otherwise—searches for “soft vampire makeup” are up 450%. For her take on the classic costume, Bieber styled her hair in a messy prom updo and opted for a smoky eyeshadow look with red cheeks and an extra glossy lip. Then, just add fake blood and fangs—voilá, you’re a Hailey Bieber-approved glamorous vampire.

SZA

Another pop culture option, SZA is the perfect muse if you’re looking for a low-key costume this year. An oversized jersey has become her signature—fans of the singer can replicate the look by pairing any sports jersey with baggy jeans and sneakers to nail the reference. Complete the look with flushed cheeks and a two-toned ’90s lip combination.

‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’

Pinterest claims that one of the best couple and best friends costumes is none other than the cast of Beetlejuice, thanks to the new sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, starring Jenna Ortega. The cult classic has a solidified aesthetic: black and white stripes, a red poufy wedding dress (worn by Winona Ryder in the first film), and oversized yellow suits. To recreate Michael Keaton’s titular character with a feminine twist, start with a cutesy white top and pair it with striped pants. Finish the look with a black smoky eye and a beetle brooch.

Amy Winehouse

Back to Black might have gotten lost in the movie shuffle this year, but Amy Winehouse’s powerhouse vocals and grungy aesthetic will live on forever. The glam is the most important part of getting the look right. She was most known for her thick black eyeliner and red lip which is key to include in your Halloween rendition of the singer. A big beehive updo and a flower accessory were also a staple of hers. For the outfit, a simple LBD and a pair of heels or tattered ballet flats will do.

Sabrina Carpenter

Carpenters, rejoice! Of course, Sabrina Carpenter made the list. From “Espresso” to “Please Please Please” you can’t leave the house without hearing one of her hits on the radio. There are a ton of looks in Carpenter’s retro aesthetic to reference, but her sparkly corset and bouncy hair for the Short N’ Sweet tour is so cute. Re-create the look with a gemstone-encrusted dress, platform shoes, and some kiss-print temporary tattoos. Want to be as accurate as possible? Her makeup artist told us exactly how to get her signature makeup look.

Priscilla Presley

Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla may have come out in 2023, but Priscilla Presley’s legacy, charm, and style are undoubtedly timeless. Classic ’60s black eyeliner, pink lips, and a glowing complexion are key to her signature glam (we have a tutorial with all the details). Half Magic collaborated on A24 for the Priscilla Trio, a kit including everything you need to get her oversized black eyeliner look. Just add teased hair and an A-line mini dress.

Charli XCX

Charli XCX’s Brat era is an effortless way to give “365 Party Girl” energy this Halloween. You likely have her bratty outfit formula—a white tank top and black skirt—in your closet somewhere, but her “Brat” merch is also still available on her website. To really lean into the club rat vibes you’ll need Charli’s messy girl glam. Try a winged-out smoky eye with matte shadows, and cover the entire lid with sheer glitter for some shine. Top it with smudged eyeliner and complete the look with some leather hot shorts.
