Blake Lively Uses This “Gen-Z Hack” to Make Her Lips “Look Huge”

Beauty hacks can be zany (See: Anne Hathaway poking her lips with a bobby pin) but you have to give credit when credit’s due. When they work they just work. Some are more practical, too. Hailey Bieber blends her foundation into a swirl of her Glazing Milk for an all-over glow, for example. And, last night ahead of the CFDA Awards, Blake Lively revealed her makeup artist’s go-to lip plumping hack, and it’s unexpectedly simple.

On October 29, the CFDA Awards (Council of Fashion Designers of America) took place in New York with the biggest stars in fashion arriving in certified lewks. Alex Constani wore Area, Tyla opted for archival Gucci, and Blake Lively arrived with Michael Kors in an all-white gown from the designer. Of course, we payed just as much attention to the beauty moments, and we couldn’t help but notice Lively’s stunning full pout and soft glam. Lucky for us, Lively gave a behind-the-scenes look on Instagram at how she got her lip look for the night.

“When @cgonzalezbeauty does the Gen-Z eye shadow lip trick to make your lips look huge,” Lively posted on her story in a selfie, tagging her makeup artist, Carolina Gonzalez. In the next slide, the actress reminisces on plumping her lips with painful “chili pepper” glosses in high school. While Gonzalez or Lively didn’t explain the hack, we’d guess it’s as simple as contouring the lips with a thin eyeshadow brush and cool-toned shadow to create the appearance of a larger pout above and below the lip line.

But! Gonzalez did post a full breakdown of Lively’s glam to her Instagram. With rosy lips as the centerpiece to the look, the Gossip Girl alumna opted for a shadowy, smoked out eyeliner topped with wispy lashes paired with a glowing, blushed complexion. Gonzalez prepped her skin using Bio-Therapeutic’s microcurrent facial, bt-sculpt, adding Rationale’s The Light Cream and The Tinted Serum for a hydrated base. To achieve the look the makeup artist used all Armani Beauty products including the tried-and-true Luminous Silk Foundation and Concealer, and Cheek Tint in Delicate Mauve (which is also the blush Sabrina Carpenter uses to get her ethereal glow).

To complete the look, Lively swept her lightly curled hair to the side in a true Serena Van Der Woodsen side-part, courtesy of hairstylist Jennifer Yepez using Blake Brown haircare.

Stars, they’re just like us. Next time you’re headed for a night out, try Lively’s lip trick by contouring your lips with a cool-toned brown eyeshadow before applying your lip liner and gloss.
