Contrary to popular belief, It’s not too late for a fall hair change. We’re in the thick of fall, and what better time to plan a big chop or try on a fun new color? Just ask Bella Hadid and Cara Delevingne who both recently cut bangs, or look to Camila Mendes who switched up her signature black strands for another bold fall shade.
The Riverdale alumna posted a slideshow of photos to Instagram yesterday, November 11, debuting her fresh hair change. “Just a newly minted redhead with a flight delay and an empty bathroom all to herself,” she captioned the post with her new cherry red hair front-and-center. The actress kept her long length but opted for a fresh cherry color for fall.

So far, the biggest fall hair color trends have been all over the board. From fresh blondes to moody jet blacks, there hasn’t been one prominent have-to-have color, but we actually haven’t really seen any red shades until now. Rather than trendy cherry cola, Mendes’ shade is a true crimson color which looks so chic paired with her fall trench and trousers. Crafted by hair colorist Matt Rez, she stuck with her same mid-chest length, only in a vibrant true-red shade that was styled in long loose waves. Mendes often tries on new styles and lengths, but this is the first time we’ve seen the star try on a whole new color.
Global artistic director of hair color for Aveda, Ian Michael Black, previously told Byrdie, that “we have seen rich copper tones trending over the last few years and this fall we will see red tones deepen and take on a stronger true red tone.” Mendes’ shade follows suit.

Fans in the comments noticed right away how similar Mendes looked to her Riverdale co-star and bestie, Madelaine Petsch. “You became Cheryl Blossom” read a comment, referring to Petsch’s character on the show. Another wrote “@madelame I think your identity was stolen.”
Chic, fun, and new, Mendes’s fresh hair change checks off all the boxes.
