Eve Hewson’s “Faded Chrome” French Manicure Is an Edgy Take on a Classic

Actor and up-and-coming It Girl Eve Hewson is Byrdie’s latest cover star. One scroll through Hewson’s Instagram will show you her punky take on classic glamour, which she brought to the shoot—Hewson tried on winter’s coolest beauty trends like prom updos, futuristic aesthetics, and an edgy chic chrome manicure.

Bad Sisters fans may already be acquainted with the star, but you may also know Hewson from Netflix’sThe Perfect Couple or maybe from the chic Simone Rocha gown that she wore to this year’s Met Gala. No matter how you got acquainted with Hewson, her rise to ultimate muse status is imminent.

For the photoshoot, Hewson tried on a curly updo that sweeps her hair back into an intricately tied knot, pulling the leftover face-framing ringlets to the side. Paired with a lacey camisole, leather gloves, and speed racer sunnies, you’d think Hewson was headed to a Charli XCX show. Popular winter silhouettes, like a furry hoodie and quilted coat, were also on display throughout the outfits she was styled in.

Her chrome nails followed the same futuristic, edgy vibe that was present throughout the shoot. They were crafted by Kimmie Kyees, who was inspired by the metallic styles on set to create a “chrome French fade” manicure by infusing a shimmery silver shade into the classic French design. For the base, Kyees opted for Only Natural by Kiara Sky, a your-nails-but-better shade, before applying the brand’s Silver Lining chrome powder on the tips to create a smoky gray reflective shadow.

To recreate the look at home, start by shaping and prepping your nails before applying the nude base color. Kyees says to remember that “most shromes are done over a nonwipe gel top coat,” so make sure you set the nails with a top coat before going in with the chrome powder. “You can also achieve a similar look with a metallic silver polish applied with the sponge technique.”
