In the Marvel Universe, Agatha All Along is the moment. Kathryn Hahn is reprising her role as Agatha Harkness from the witchy show Wandavision in a retro spin-off featuring Aubrey Plaza and Patti Lupone. Aside from its layered plot lines and stacked cast, the show’s witchy glam is a pivotal part of the series’s storytelling. Head Makeup Artist Vasilios Tanis gave Byrdie all the details on Harkness’s witchy beauty transformation and the products used in the show’s best beauty looks.
Tanis describes the three most pivotal glam moments from the show as the “road look,” a subtle glam moment before Harkness’s witch transformation; the “hero look,” her fully-formed witch glam complete with dramatic eyes and bold hues; and the “disco witch” style with gothic eyeshadow for a “sexy spooky” vibe. Ahead, all the details on how to copy each look, just in time for Halloween.

Of course, before Tannis applies any makeup he preps the skin for a dewy, glow-from-within complexion starting with the Current Body LED Face Mask. “There must be a light treatment before the witching hour commences!” he shares. To keep Hahn’s skin hydrated for makeup application he uses the Yon-Ka Crème 28 and Phyto Contour Anti-Fatige Eye Cream, which the actor also uses in her everyday routine. For an extra glowy base Tannis uses the Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation topped with the Maifanshi Aqua Foundation Illuminator.
“Agatha’s road look is a fresher, more earthbound version of her final transformation,” says Tanis. The makeup pairs with her blue blazer and long wavy brown hair for a natural, modern take on typical gothic beauty. The eyes are the centerpiece of the look, featuring an ivory shade from the Viseart Paris Matte Palette blended with purple-toned shades Night Creature, Blitz Amethyst, and Astral Ghost Orchid from Pat McGrath’s Mothership III: Subversive Palette in the crease and under the eye for an vampy but ethereal feel.
The Hero Look
The hero look is all about Agatha’s transformation into her full witchy form. Tannis used the same purple-toned hues as a base but intensified the color further using darker eggplant and black shades from both palettes. To add heaviness to the eyes and complete the dark shadow he lined Hahn’s lash line with the LaBomme Angle Baby Eyeliner, blending the black color into the lashes. Tanis used the Westman Atelier Face Trace Contour Stick in Biscuit on Hahn’s cheekbones, jaw, and temples to create “the illusion of a more angular, drawn—witchy, if you will—face.” He completed the look with a glass-stained lip using the Le Rouge Francais #20 lipstick and blending it with a clear gloss.

The “Disco witch” look plays into the drama of the retro costumes and ’70s feel with “bold, black shadow and strong contouring.” Tannis used the same contouring approach and eyeshadow palettes, only instead of purple hues, he opted for blacks and grays to give the look a “club-night-in-the-underworld vibe.”
