Lily-Rose Depp’s Curly Princess Updo Is Going Straight to Our Fall Mood Board

The Governors Awards took place this weekend, and they were a fashion and beauty feast. The low-key event hosted by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science’s felt on par with the Met Gala: Jennifer Lawrence wore custom Bottega Veneta, Lupito Nyong’o wore makeup inspired by silent films, and Lily-Rose Depp arrived looking like a princess with a hairstyle that dreams are made of.

If you haven’t heard of the Governors Awards before, we’ll admit: Neither had we. Taking place on November 17 in Los Angeles, the ceremony happens before the Oscars and celebrates contributions and lifetime achievements in film. Ahead of her highly-anticipated film, Nosferatu, Depp made her mark in an (almost) vintage Chanel gown and an updo we immediately pinned onto our mood boards.

In this case, a picture really is worth a thousand words. Depp’s princess updo continues the prom-esque styles we’ve been seeing across red carpets throughout the year, with co-signs from Kaia Gerber, Bella Hadid, and of course, now Depp. Speaking of, Depp’s looks very similar to the updo Hadid wore during the Cannes Film Festival—which makes perfect sense, as they were both the work of hairstylist Bryce Scarlett. We’d wager that the look began by styling a slicked back bun that was then topped with curly ringlet extensions, placed thoughtfully around the knot.

Depp’s voluminous curly updo is instantly eye catching, which is why the rest of her glam was a little more soft and pared-back. The work of Nina Park, Depp wore a soft, bronzy eyeshadow paired with fluffy lashes, completing the look with cool pink Barbie blush and a ’90s nude lip, which added to the vintage prom queen feel (as did the blooming Chanel dress).

Simply stunning. We’ll be (trying) to re-create her bouncy updo to all our upcoming fancy holiday events.
