Winter is just around the corner (crazy, I know) and as such, we’re refreshing our mood boards and preparing for the next trend cycle ahead. In the nail department, we’re looking forward to festive manicures that lean into the end-of-year spirit, and Nicola Coughlan’s latest nail look is the perfect example.
While it’s still fall, there’s a slight bit of fatigue for expected manicure shades like chocolate browns and deep burgundies. Those hues are stunning, no doubt, but if you’re feeling the urge switch things up look no further than Coughlan’s bright red manicure that’s reminiscent of winter’s pretty poinsettia flowers.

Earlier this week, the actor attended Harper’s Bazaar’s Women of the Year Awards, where she won Television Actress of the Year for her role in Bridgerton. For the occasion, she dressed in an all-black suit dress—the only pop of color came from her manicure, which she matched to her red lipstick and Artists4Ceasefire button.
Crafted by manicurist Michelle Class, Coughlan’s nails had a long almond shape that was covered in a bright, poppy red shade of polish that added a fun dose of color. The nails were topped with a glossy coat for a bit of refined shine, and that was it! Red nails are a staple year-round, but the bright shade was a refreshing change from the low-key colors we’ve seen throughout this season.

She wore an almost identical shade on her lips for a cute coordinating moment. Makeup artist Neil Young created a soft, cloud skin base with the red lip as the centerpiece, pairing it with a classic black cat-eye eyeliner and wispy lashes.
Red nails have been a huge nail trend throughout the year, and with Coughlan’s co-sign we’d wager the trend is about to be big this winter. If anything, Penelope Featherton would definitely approve.
