Selena Gomez Tried a Sleek Flippy Bob for Fall

The Academy Museum Gala took place over the weekend, and there’s a reason why they call it the Met Gala of the West Coast, as the fashion and beauty moments are worth paying attention to. Case in point: Selena Gomez made an appearance and debuted a chic hair transformation for fall.

So, what is the Academy Museum Gala you may ask? It’s a fancy event to support the Academy Museum (as in the Academy Awards) exhibits and public programs. Of course, it’s since turned into one of the most major fashion events of the year featuring stars like Kendall Jenner, Cynthia Erivio, and Ariana Grande—the list could go on. For the occasion, Gomez arrived in a custom velvet Alaïa gown paired with one of fall’s biggest haircut trends: the flippy bob.

Gomez kept her take on the flippy bob pretty classic. The no-fuss haircut features a classic bob cut with the ends curled upward to create a cool curved shape. Crafted by hairstylist Marissa Marino, Gomez’s bob had a wet-like appearance, likely the work of all the gel and product holding the hair in place. She opted for a deep-side part which added a glamorous feel to the classic look. And, that was it—the flippy bob doesn’t need much else to make a statement, and Gomez’s was executed perfectly.

Since the new shorter cut was a big change for Gomez, she kept her makeup pared-back and simple. Gomez’s go-to makeup artist Hung Vanngo created the look which featured glowy pink lips and cheeks and a soft gray smoked-out eyeshadow look.

She styled the velvety blue dress with silver jewelry and a shimmery “cosmic silver gloss” manicure, courtesy of Tom Bachik. Gomez swapped her typical fall colors for a fresh take on the lip gloss manicure that featured her natural nails covered in a sheer sparkly polish.
