We’re in the thick of fall, which means the fall manicure inspiration is practically growing on trees. The latest to catch our eye? Katie Holmes’ glossy brown nails that are the minimalist-approved autumnal manicure of our dreams.

The CFDA Awards took place yesterday, October 28, in New York and as expected, it was a fashionably star-studded affair. Holmes arrived in a pink and red Carolina Herrera gown alongside Wes Gordon, the brand’s Creative Director, with a pared-back updo and low-key glam. Holmes kept this same approach with her nails, adding a touch of fall energy with the sheer brown color.

Don’t hate us: The shade of brown kinda reminded us of Thanksgiving gravy. In the best way! It’s fall, after all. It looks like Holmes used her natural nails as a base, which had a short, squared-off length. The light brown color leaned slightly orange, like the color of caramel, and was topped with a glossy top coat for some opaque shine. And, that was it—Holmes proves yet again that sometimes the best manicures are the simplest.

Earlier in the season, brown nails were a hit, with everyone from Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber putting their twist on the color trend. It’s since slowed down, but Holmes’ light caramel brown shade is sure to re-ignite the nail color craze.

With the dress having its moment, the rest of Holmes’ glam was easygoing and pretty. She wore her hair in a low bun that was tied into an intricate fluffy knot, illuminating the lighter strands in her brown hair. A rosy lip gloss and the lightest swipe of mascara and blush made-up her light makeup for the night.
